Hope to be able to digest this morning’s information with my lunch.  Still am not convinced how this is going to work in a primary without losing my life.

If you want your kids to write more and read more then blogs will be a help. If you’re wanting to remain sane I’d start simple. Create one class learning blog, where two class scribes are nominated to sum up what they thought they were meant to learn, what they feel they actually learned and then what they think they will or will want to learn in the next lesson. That way, if a kid’s lost or wants to see what was done over the past week in class they can. The very act of writing down these thoughts will help the scribes, at least, to learn better and put learning into context. (There’s tonnes on this in the LTScotland Assessment is for Learning website): http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/assess/

I genuinely feel, as I said at the time, that blogging is an awesome way to encourage even the most reticent writers (and readers). Time, as always, is the biggest issue but can’t be the reason for not doing blogs in the primary school. Blog on….

As my old Math Lecturer used to say… “Suck it and See”. He was of course talking about maths problems. I think like most things, we need to test and see if the practice is as good as the theory. It is takes your life away, ditch it. If it liberates enbrace it. Thats what I intend to do. I will be giving it a go with a higher chemistry class first, trying out the learning log idea, and then taking it from there.
